    Classic Gold Key Star Trek comics, how do I love thee Let me count the ways Okay, okay, issues 13 through 18 certainly aren t perfect, but they re awfully, awfully good in so many wonderful, wonderful ways It s easy enough to focus on the nitpicky inconsistencies that quite naturally arose during the production of this first ever Star Trek comic book series, when Western Publishing had actually been so bold as to hire an artist that had NEVER even seen a single episode of Star Trek No lie, folks [...]

    One of these stories is a classic Which one is the real one and whom do I shoot story Another uses the cliche robot uprising trope, though it is pointed out in the introduction that this was prior to it being overused I m not so sure about this, but without some references off the top of my head, I can t dispute it right now And Spock being viewed as a God and as a guardian of a planet is entertaining.

    In line with the previous Gold Archives volumes, this one is full of fantastic tales that seem to have a very tenuous connection with the Star Trek mythology A plan to replace Kirk with a mad clone in order to give an advantage to some rather human like Klingons A visit to Limbo Medieval planets and all these talk of prime directives that are clearly forgotten in the next page.Still entertaining, but at least the first two volumes were slapstick, if that can be said.

    Okay, so I get why die hard TOS fans may give these Gold Key comics a low rating The stories are sappy, sometimes a bit silly, and don t fully follow TOS protocol But for me, I really love seeing the characters in these new situations, and the artwork is amazing Fantastic bright colors used together who cares if the shirts aren t always the right colors when they look so good
