I would give this ten stars if I could Best book I ve read this year.
The best part of the poetry collection was the insight The rest I didn t care for.
I discovered this via the UChicago Magazine mag.uchicago law policy so and so enjoyed the poetry I m not really a poetry guy though On America We shot him through the chest, and now we re saving his life it seems absurd, but that s what Americans do blow a place apart, then put it together again, pretending it s good as new.On the loss of a friend You died suddenlyon a beach far away, cutting your own throat, then falling on a blade.Inexplicable death, unless, as they said, surgeries gone baddrove y [...]
Medic Against Bomb is a collection of poems by a US Navy physician of his experiences during the war, caring for the American soldiers and Iraqi patients.Initially, it was a little hard to relate to the poems, for someone who has no direct participation in the war, at least in the military or medical field. There were some poems written in a simple way that you are able to grasp the message clearly and easily But there were also several poems with too many military jargons, that I have to Google [...]
Medic Against Bomb is an unusual collection of poetry The author, Frederick Foote, is a retired U.S Navy physician and he is the director of the Poetry Project at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. These are poems from wartime Mainly written on the hospital ship COMFORT The harsh nature of war in light of poetry does nothing to diminish it s horror, but it does come through as an interesting expression From poems about soldiers dying, and enemy combatants that are being saved on the op [...]
I received this through NetGalley to review.I wasn t sure what to expect in this collection, and some of the poems really surprised me, and others were lost on me The poems in the first section were very accessible, and despite the overabundance of rhyme which can often ruin what could have been a good poem , they were solid and moving The poems in the middle section were chaotic and difficult to follow, let alone engage with I have a feeling they well represent a war zone, but as one who has ne [...]
This is an Advanced Readers Copy received from Net GalleyPublised by Grayson BooksMedic Against Bomb is a book of poetry that chronicles the experience of the writer s time in Iraq The poetry is written in a sort of prose style, where he writes about people in his life that were close to him, the deaths he witnessed or heard of, in a way where you actually feel like you have seen the scene through your own eyes Like most poetry, it was a way to cope with the overwhelming feelings and experiences [...]
The fact that this book won prizes raises my eyebrows The content is surely meant to shock, and the graphic images lend a sort of you are there reality to the collection The shock factor is what I believe must be reeling in a fanbase Perhaps, by reading this, people feel that they are coming to a deeper understanding of the war, or by buying the book, are supporting those who fight However, Foote s poetry itself is quite simply lacking From an analytical perspective, he s not an accomplished poe [...]
Dr Foote s Medic Against Bomb is a must read It is eye opening to see the pain of war reflected through the words in these poems Reading Medic Against Momb was very meaningful for me, as war is something I am not able to personally connect to Dr Foote s poems let the reader experience the emotions that many on the front line may have felt Definitely a great buy.
Wonderfully unique collection of evocative poems I haven t read anything that comes close to describing the desolation of war in one page and the beauty of human compassion in the next Truly a book every American should read.
Some of these poems really moved me, some really confused me I suppose that s unsurprising, as I m not much of a poetry reader Overall, it was interesting but I think I prefer poetic prose to poetry itself.
