For all my reviews, visit my blog at ladyjbookishnookThe Company of Demons is the debut novel by Michael Jordan It is a great thriller set in Cleveland, Ohio I was totally in love with this book The author was able to draw me in right from the beginning and held my interest throughout I felt the pace of the book was spot on I also thought the ending was good. The main character, John Coleman, is a lawyer who has a problem with alcohol and cheating on his wife Needless to say, John Coleman is a fl [...]

5My reviews and maybe some other random thoughts can also be seen at readingbetweenwinessite.wordp ____________________________________________________________I am going to start out my review for The Company of Demons by saying this book will not be for everyone If you are squeamish in any way, you probably aren t going to like this one There are a few scenes that are pretty nasty, and although Michael Jordan doesn t go into a ton of detail, you are still very aware of what is going on I wouldn [...]

4.5 kept me going through all its pages starsThis was suppose to be a fill in book for me I was kind of interested and when reading its summary thought what the heck Boy, was I in for a very surprising, chilling surprise I guess I should always remember that no one is exempt from being surprised John Coleman is a lawyer, son of a dead policeman, married to Cathy and they have one adopted daughter who they love tremendously John is also teetering on the brink of being an alcoholic and it is durin [...]

This was an interesting debut by Attorney Michael Jordan It alternates between fact and fiction it s very cleverly done Back in the 40 s, there was a serial killer dubbed The Torso Murderer who left a string of bodies brutally slain around the Cleveland area He even alluded the famous Elliot Ness this is fact A generation later another serial killer The butcher enters the scene with the same M.O as the earlier Torso Murderer This murderer, The Butcher strikes Cleveland and it almost destroys Joh [...]

The Torso Murderer had brutally killed twelve victims in the forties and evaded capture The legend of him was etched into the mind of the residents and history of the town, so when the body, yes literally just the body, of a man was found behind a bar in a skip with all the rubbish, it instilled fear in everyone The victim, Oyster, was a drinking buddy of Lawyer John Coleman who had been in the bar when his friend was discovered.John Coleman isn t the most likeable guy that you could meet, in fa [...]

DNF at pg 54Short one since I couldn t remember a lot of the book and I really wasn t into it Also, not going on the blog because it s so short.Really, this one just didn t work for me The story is good and the history that it combined was interesting, yet there were so many things wrong For one, the writing was clunky and awkward to read It pulled me out of the story since it never felt like how someone would actually talk Next, the main character was, well, not the best He didn t feel realisti [...]

I received a free copy of The Company of Demons by Michael Jordan from Bookish First for my honest Review This book is a Thriller and I very much enjoyed it It was a little slow moving but if you stick with it you will thoroughly enjoy it This book is about a serial killer that is based on real historical elements A lawyer, John Colemen is determined to find the serial killer because his friend is murdered by him This book is a very dark and gruesome but very well written.

This is an entertaining read, with good enough writing to keep me reading it for two days straight, but with a few shortcomings that I couldn t overlook The story is pretty straightforward as we re being introduced to John s demons from the very beginning no time is wasted in setting up the context of John s past, but we are instead offered explanations along the way, which works for maintaining suspense As such, the narration grips you to the very end, but I cannot help but feel that it was ult [...]

I thought I would like this book, but upon reading it, I found out I loved it.John Coleman is at a bar when a waitress much to her dismay finds the body of a man they all call Oyster because of his bulbous eyes While taking out the trash Karen finds Oyster naked and strewn across the plastic garbage bags in the dumpster Minus a head, the torso spit down the middle, guts, lungs, and heart all scooped out The dumpster had the smell of rancid meat Oyster s body was mutilated and parts were missing [...]

I absolutely loved this thriller and read it in one sitting Hard to believe it s a debut novel as it moves along with a breakneck pace and kept me turning pages into the night Based on historical elements of a real serial killer, Jordan brings to life the protagonist and flawed character, John Coleman a lawyer who is determined to find the killer when a friend is brutally murdered Add an already troubled marriage and a seductive woman who needs his help to the mix and the roller coaster ride beg [...]

4.5This book started immediately with mystery It was hard to put the book down because the mystery really had me hooked There were so many different parts to the story, I couldn t wait to see how it was going to all come together There were so many ridiculous, but plausible twists and turns throughout the whole book It was filled with action, mystery, and a great court case.At first I wasn t a fan of John, but I feel like the author did that on purpose so you could grow to actually like him I th [...]

I honestly could not finish this I tried Many times I got to page 221 before I literally could not do it any The lead character is 100% unlikable For someone who makes horrible choices, in most aspects of life, he sure is spineless at times He constantly makes bad choices and then acts like the martyr after Also, there were numerous plot lines running here and they felt disjointed and messy At one point, I literally put the book down to ask myself what was even happening here While the first imp [...]

I had many up and down feelings on The Company of Demons There was a lot going on, and I enjoyed some parts, and didn t enjoy others I wish there would have been focus on just one of the plot lines Because there were so many things going on, the story became confusing at times Usually I don t mind unlikable characters, but the main character in this book is tough to handle He is in his 50s, but acts like he s in his 20s He s constantly making poor choices blaming everyone else when things go wr [...]

I really enjoy a legal thriller Give me a John Grisham or Michael Connelly novel and I am one happy camper So, when I read the synopsis of The Company of Demons, the psychological legal thriller by Michael Jordan, I dove right in Meeting a lawyer, John Coleman, who discovers the corpse of his friend behind their neighbourhood bar sending shockwaves through the city and bringing back painful memories of a killer who dismembered and taunted police decades earlier and vanished As John tries to cope [...]

I loved this book I was reading some of the other reviews and noticed the negative ones mainly complained about not liking the protagonist, John Coleman He was kind of sleazy as far as chasing the ladies Other than that, I can see how the author was wanting to present him I know of some lawyers that fit this mold, no offense, not all are like this And this is true for any career type Coleman is like a tired and lazy salesman or lawyer type I picture him in wrinkled clothes and an unkempt appeara [...]

Michael Jordan s debut, The Company of Demons, is an intriguing if somewhat confused book The story concerns John Coleman, a pretty much washed up Chicago lawyer After his friend Oyster s body is found in the dumpster behind the bar that John, Oyster, and a multitude of friends frequented, John realizes that the Butcher, a serial killer who drove his cop father to suicide, has returned When Oyster s daughter Jennifer hires John to manage her father s estate, the danger only increases for John an [...]

donnasbookblog.wordpress I really enjoyed this book It starts out with a rather horrific murder not a spoiler as it is in the blurb and you get thrown in to the story I was gripped and the fast pace continued right to the end The characters in the book are great and I loved the suspense that the author manages to build up I do love a good thriller and this one was great a really enjoyable read 4 stars from me, some excellent books out in 2018 so far

Serial Killer mysteries are my favorite type of thrillers I ve said this again and again And it still holds true. And what s even better When there are two different killers, and another person who s arrested for the murder who by the way, has not commited it.And that s what happens in The Company of Demons It s full of action, murders, encounter with serial killers, courtroom drama, a lot of bad and good characters, and a whole lot of goosebumps.Overall, it was an exciting read, and I m looking [...]

Wow is this book hard to rate Let s jump in to what I did like and what I didn t like.A disjointed list of things I liked The unlikable main character I really enjoy reading books, especially thrillers, where the main character is unlikeable Definitely the case here I couldn t put this book down The pacing wasn t perfect, but it was enough to keep me picking it up constantly No spoilers, but I love the serial killer situation In a totally weird way.A disjointed list of things I didn t like Race [...]

There were times I decided to not finish this book But, my commitment to read it after winning a copy in order to provide an honest review continued to help me trudge forward. The author does a nice job of unfolding John s current state based on his past throughout the book His demons are introduced right up front and we learn and about why they have such a hold on him in life But, no matter how hard I tried, I could not find an ounce of sympathy for him nor did I ever come to like him as a per [...]

Readers of the thriller suspense genre may find this a difficult for read for a few reasons While Jordan shimmers in certain places in his debut novel, his main character s lack of character almost tanks his valiant efforts John Coleman is a man that is haunted by his policeman father s suicide and is obsessed with his father s nemesis, a serial killer, aptly named The Butcher, due to the intricate carving of the disposed bodies His obsession resurfaces after the body of his long time drinking b [...]

I was a long way into this book before it grabbed me and I almost gave up on it but I m glad I didn t as once I got into it I couldn t put it down I love gruesome scary books but there s was a few chapters that had my stomach churning, so good Slow start but in the end it was a roller coaster

Received through FirstReadsBlahThis book was just so blah Very disjointed I felt like it didn t know exactly what it wanted to be, and so tried to mix a bunch of different things, with a poor result Historical, crime, legal, thriller, gangs, affairs with sistersere s just too much No depth to anything Also, the only woman in this book that s notummunlikable to use a milder word , is the secretary.

    Ashley Foley

The main character in this book, John Coleman, really irritated me I saw through every manipulation as soon as they happened, yet he remained a blind idiot throughout Only when all his secrets came out did he even attempt to start kind of taking responsibility for his actions The story was good ish But there wasn t one character I attached to which is very rare for me I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I read the description of this book I have to admit I was intrigued at first by its location This was due to the fact that my son moved to the Cleveland area of Lakewood last year so I had some idea of the location The deeper I got into the description though the interested I became so I decided to give it a read.John Coleman is a lawyer trying to get by when he learns about a recent murder in the Cleveland area The method of the murder is reminiscent of the famed Torso murders made famous [...]

A free physical book in exchange for an honest review. This was a solid book for me It was very problematic, I think there could have been some additional editing made, but the overall story itself was very entertaining.John Coleman is a lawyer that doesn t make the best personal decisions At a very young age he watched his father slowly fall down the rabbit hole of depression and alcoholism while chasing the infamous Torso Murderer A serial killer that left him a haunting message that he would b [...]

The difficulty in life is the choice. This book was just alright for me The mystery of the butcher got a little lost in the middle of the book, I was disappointed to see that it really only took the spotlight a couple of times in the book despite all the foreshadowing in the beginning The main character John Coleman, was my least favorite I understand characters make some stupid decisions, but COMON this was just ridiculous I have a killer after my daughter so I m going to leave her alone to get [...]

John Coleman is a lawyer who is haunted by the fact that his dad spent years working on a serial killer case, only to commit suicide because of it In the present day, Coleman s worst nightmare has come true the Butcher is back and killing again Not only that, the Butcher has taken to killing some people close to Coleman This book tries to work with three very different storylines the Torso murders, the Butcher, and issues with a Mexican drug cartel John Coleman seems to be in the middle of it al [...]

I won this book via a Giveaway.I enjoyed this mystery crime story I would have rated it 3 1 2 stars if possible, but felt that a 4 star rating is appropriate than a 3 star rating.John is a lawyer in Cleveland, having a drink at his favorite watering hole, when one of the owners of the bar screams when she finds a mutilated body in the dumpster in the back of the bar It was a fellow bar patron nicknamed Oyster which made the murder even difficult for John In addition to this, it seemed to be th [...]
