Moore s interest in the occult takes over the book, and its quality suffers a great deal as a result The plot still exists in some form, as Sophie travels up the kabalistic tree of creation, but it is second to Moore s attempt to synthesize Egyptian, Judaic, Roman, Greek, Norse, Christian, etc mythologies into a complete system for understanding the world It really starts to fall into the morass of new age mysticism and hippie simple mindedness, complete with faux insightful comments such as, It [...]
This is the same kind of pseudo mystical masturbation that made me furious with Jerusalem The art continues to be astonishing, though.
Volume 3 of Promethea can also be called as Alan Moore s fruity weird beliefs are just amalgams of different philosophies, religions and new age esque concepts It s just a long imagination roller coaster But the artwork and colors are as great as ever.

Welcome to my review of Promethea Volume 3, or Why I Know More About the Kabbalah Than Most Rural North Carolinian Baptists.Issues 13 23 of Promethea are basically Alan Moore s illustrated TED talk about the history, symbols, and philosophy of magic Each issue has maybe 4 or 5 pages of Sophie s friend Stacia fighting crime back on Earth while channeling the most militant incarnation of Promethea The rest of the time we follow Sophie Promethea and the newly deceased previous wielder of Promethea [...]
Moore is definitely getting into the philosophy of his material at this point It s about 75% philosophical exposition, and 25% narrative While the two are wonderfully intertwined and I m certainly excited to read all of it, his intentions are certainly clear at this point.I find myself referring back to previous issues, as well as outside material on the Kaballah, tarot, and the various literary historical references Moore is making practically on each page Moore is never guilty of doing anythi [...]
In the third volume of Alan Moore s Promethea we spend most of the time in the immaterial world as we re shown through and told about the tenets of various magical systems And this is where the story was leading and this is where, in the story, readers seem to either fall in love, stop reading, or are simply confused and that s fine, for with this leap in narration we are given some of the most startling inventions in graphic art for instance, the infinity symbol is used in a way that forces the [...]
It s rather tryingly didactic, though I suppose that has the virtue of providing a better means for some people to get a handle on the correspondences of Hermetic Qabala a la Crowley than the typical, tedious manner of attempting to memorize the tables from 777 by brute force Also, the aesthetics are better.
I actually liked this a lot than when I first read it A lot of readers dropped Promethea at this point because of the endless tarot kabbalah etc references , but it s not supposed to be a superhero comic It s supposed to be a spiritual and literary allegory, and it s extremely well constructed.
Oh god, yet monologues about mysticism and myth How fascinating, Mr Moore Please, spend the next five comics reciting everything you have ever read about this subject
Vomit Boring and trite This guy is like a two year old sometimes and not in an endearing way.
I m an Alan Moore fan That being said this volume almost killed me Gone is the plot and story arc from Promethea and suddenly I m being bashed over the head with all his Norse, Greek, Roman, Christian mythology It s just so hard to get through Sure, it s hidden under the guise that Sofie is looking for Barbara in the afterlife but damn, the Kabbala, the gods, the jewish descriptions of life, it s just endless It s like reading a Religion 101 textbook than reading a good story I hope volume four [...]
The Promethea graphic novel series books is a must in every comic lover chick library, even though it gets close to a piece written by a woman and even though Alan Moore is one of the greats, we can still see through the pen of a man.
I don t know how someone doesn t fall into the art and feel themselves dragged thru the imagination of Alan Moore on tarot, religion, love, life, lust, hell, numerology, etc etc etc I think this series is among his masterpieces Something I want to have in my library always
I m just determined to finish the series at this point since I m than halfway, but it s not even a story any, it s just Moore proselytizing his weird ambiguous magic beliefs
Comic break Denser than the last two, but still very good.
Overall a solid installment in the Promethea series I honestly loved this series, it was so unique from other comic books.
best volume so far
Review to come
This is Alan Moore doing what Alan Moore does best taking high concepts and making them palatable and fascinating for his readers And Williams art is beyond perfect.

Great series Takes you through the Kabbalah basically.
Promethea three keeps up the quality of the two preceding instalments, while entering into whole new realms First of all, the art work continues to be superb, becoming even complex than before Thus we have a double page spread where the narrative takes place around a Moebius band, and can be read starting from any point on the band, and others which are circular and work in either direction Moreover, reflecting the shifts in the narrative from one realm to another, the style of the art shifts, [...]
Moore s exploration of magic continues, although this volume splits his storyline into two parallel threads One takes Promethea, our Wonder Woman inspired heroine on a Kaballah inspired exploration of the afterlife The other sees a former Promethea return to Earth for some sword swinging action. Both parts privilege the concept over the storytelling, although the imbalance is obviously extreme in the former The explorations of the afterlife have some clever bits, but, ironically, despite all the [...]
Promethea goes even worse, even boring and even newage Actually, as someone not lacking knowledge of stuff Moore bound into his comic, I feel I could comment.First of all, if Cabalistic Tree of Life can be thought as a way to look over creation, it has COMPLETELY NOTHING TO DO WITH EGYPTIAN, ROMAN AND NORSE GODS Alan, you look like someone who looks at a fruit fly through a microscope and hopes to see Moon s craters And those reminders of overall higher God Godhead, and the sentimental scene w [...]
Sophie s adventures as Promethea continue as she goes deeper into the Immateria Meanwhile, there is a replacement back on Earth, but she is a bit aggressive Only reason I did not give this five stars is that this particular volume is a bit heavy on the Kabbalah and mystical references I find them interesting, but Moore does lay them a bit thick at times I think some readers may not be as interested as I am Like previous volumes, this is one I will probably have to reread just to get all of it T [...]
